PERFORMANCE

The artist enjoys exploring the parallels between the artist and subject by acting as both through photography and performance work. She is interested in the act of performing to produce an image, both as it connects to her work as a studio artist while painting and as the subject of photographs or video projects. The effort going into each situation to create a composition – makeup, costume and posing amongst other – to produce a stagnant image is a similar experience to that which creates filmed media or real interactions. The artist is interested in how this imagery and process can intersect in the media, particularly with regard to the commoditization of women.

Kaleigh Quinnan is the co-organizer and co-founder of Frances Michelle Group, an ongoing Philadelphia based art collective that curates lighthearted, community-based group shows. She collaborates as a curator, event organizer, designer and leader for this female-led project.
